Juniper EX and QFX switching consulting

Juniper switching is the core of most of the networks I build. I work across the EX line for campus and access, and QFX for data center leaf and spine, whether the switches are managed from the CLI, from Juniper Mist, or from Apstra.

What I help with

Campus design. Access, distribution and core layouts on EX, sized for the ports, PoE and uplinks you actually need. I’ll tell you plainly where a simpler design will do.

Mist-managed campus fabrics. Planning and deploying EVPN-VXLAN campus fabrics in Juniper Mist, including choosing between core-distribution and edge-routed topologies, switch selection, and a phased rollout that starts in a lab.

Data center leaf and spine on QFX. IP fabrics with EVPN-VXLAN, either built directly or managed through Apstra. See Apstra and EVPN-VXLAN for the automated approach.

Virtual Chassis. Building, expanding and troubleshooting Virtual Chassis stacks, including mixed-model stacks and member replacement.

Out-of-band management networks. Dedicated management networks for servers, PDUs and network gear, which matter most when everything else is down.

Troubleshooting. Spanning tree problems, MAC flapping, LACP bundles that won’t form, VLAN and trunking errors, and the slow-burning issues that only show up under load.

Upgrades and lifecycle. Junos upgrade planning across a fleet, and replacing aging EX models with current ones without a long outage.

Coming from another vendor

I spent years at Extreme Networks and still work with Extreme switching, including X460 stacking. Migrations from other vendors onto EX and QFX are a common engagement.
